Canuckian Halftime Report: One De-Man, One Mission

His mission? To single-handedly win the Stanley Cup. Or at least the Northwest division. Yes. Northwest. Suddenly, you know of whom I speak.

Louie.

Luongo Silhouette

Though his composure isn’t quite as… demonic as this photo may make him seem, his accomplishments unearthly. Not the least of these was last night’s performance against the New York Rangers.

Though Kesler was the best Canuck in the offensive zone, potting the only important goal and generating more pressure than the rest of the team combined, he failed to match Luongo’s performance… which is a-ok with the rest of the team!

Twenty-eight saves into the game, Luongo recorded his sixth shutout of the season.

Sixth.

That’s at exactly the halfway marker for the team.

That’s a 12-shutout pace, on a team that even lets up thirty shots a game, occasionally!!! Combine that with his 1.97 GAA, his .930 SV%, and his super-cool photo (see above), and you have to wonder at just what has possessed this netminder since the turning point about 20 games into the season.

And so, halfway through the season for the Vancouver Canucks, the undeniable truth is that Louie, whose only shortcoming is his lovable name, is the team’s MVP, and arguably the league’s. With Crosby slowing and 120-point-pace Lecavalier leading his team into the mire, it’s hard to believe that anyone could outpace him for the Hart Trophy… even chronic rival Martin Brodeur, whose stats are significantly less dazzling.

Though the season’s hardly over, and anything can happen, Vancouver’s goaltender takes the cake in the first half, with his team coming up a close second behind Ottawa for points by a Canadian team!
